Ryan Lewis is a North Carolina native who found his calling in emergency services through the TV show “Emergency!” He currently serves full-time with Wake County EMS. Since beginning as a fire service explorer scout in the 1980s, he has served in almost every role at both volunteer and career fire and EMS organizations, in areas from rural to urban, and in locations from North Carolina to Texas. When his organization began teaching responders how to support the families of patients, he started asking how responders could best support responders, and is proud to have connected with the NC Firefighter Peer Support program and it’s responder-focused peer support model. He’s striving to keep work, relationships, parenthood, and professional growth in balance, and is glad to know he’s not the only one who has found that our work in emergency services makes that more of a task than it is for many other career fields. As time allows, he enjoys working with canine rescue organizations that specialize in the placement of German Shepherd, Belgian Malinois, and Dutch Shepherd breeds.
